VIDEO: How to Fix the Foot Remote (Or, Really, the Remote Air Switch)

Remote Air Switch vs. Air Foot Remote

Foot remote not working? Chances are it’s not actually the foot remote, but rather the remote air switch that it connects to. Here’s how to fix it.

Transcript:

Hello! Bil here. I want to answer a question we get from time to time here at Vaniman: how do you fix the foot remote for your dust collector?

This is Part Number 1443 — the foot remote for the SandVac, Abrasive Vac, the Vanguard Mobile series, and the Pure Breeze FX HEPA Fume Extractor. This is what you step on to start and stop your unit. If you find your foot pedal stops working, this part is hardly ever the problem – this is just an air bellows. It pushes air through the tubing. That’s all.

This is the actual air switch, Part Number 1442. This is most often the culprit. The tubing plugs into the top. When the foot remote is stepped on, the blast of air from the tubing activates this switch. Now, the valve in this part does wear out over time. It doesn’t take much air pressure to test the switch; you can blow on it like you would a balloon and you’ll hear the switch click back and forth. If you blow into it and you can’t hear the click, it is a safe bet that the switch has worn out.

You can replace this yourself pretty easily. You’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver to take the outer panel off, and then unscrew the nut by hand on the old switch to remove it. Then you can slip in the new switch, tighten the nut, and put the panel back on. That’s it!

You can get this replacement part from your dealer, or you can find it on our website. Avoid headaches, and make sure you get the right replacement part!
